Protection evidence
Recent independent protection results, consistency, false-positive context, and the strength of core threat defence.
Relaymint antivirus ratings / Reviewed 11 October 2026
We compare leading antivirus products through a consistent five-parameter framework covering protection evidence, performance and usability, device coverage, security features, and value. The result is a practical shortlist built to make trade-offs easier to understand.
Our testing parameters
Every product is assessed on the same ten-point scale. The overall rating is a weighted editorial score designed for comparison—not a substitute for matching a product to your devices and risk profile.
Recent independent protection results, consistency, false-positive context, and the strength of core threat defence.
System impact evidence, interface clarity, setup effort, alerts, and day-to-day management.
Supported platforms, device allowances, cross-device management, and suitability for common household setups.
Relevant extras such as web protection, ransomware controls, firewall tools, privacy features, backup, and recovery support.
Plan transparency, feature distinctions, introductory and renewal information, trials, support, and overall usefulness for the price.
Detailed rankings
Scores are Relaymint editorial assessments under the published framework. Product plans and availability change, so every review includes a practical point to confirm before purchase.
Quick comparison
Use the score to narrow the field, then compare the fit and purchase checks before deciding which official product page to review.
| Rank | Product | Rating | Best starting fit | Important check |

| 02 | Norton 360 | 9.0/10 | Best all-in-one suite | Confirm which extras are included in the selected tier and whether their regional availability matches your needs. |
| 03 | ESET | 8.8/10 | Best for granular control | Review the differences between plan tiers and decide whether the available extras matter to your particular devices. |
| 04 | McAfee | 8.6/10 | Best for multi-device households | Check the number and type of supported devices, renewal terms, and which identity or privacy features apply locally. |
| 05 | Avast | 8.4/10 | Best accessible starting point | Separate core antivirus needs from optional tools and compare subscription prompts, plan contents, and renewal pricing. |
| 06 | Malwarebytes | 8.3/10 | Best for straightforward remediation | Confirm whether you need a primary security suite, an additional remediation tool, or the features of a specific paid plan. |
| 07 | Microsoft Defender | 8.2/10 | Best built-in Windows baseline | Assess whether your needs extend beyond the included Windows protections to cross-platform coverage, support, or bundled tools. |
| 08 | AVG | 8.1/10 | Best simple free-to-paid path | Compare overlap between included features, optional utilities, paid tiers, and the renewal price before upgrading. |
Scoring methodology
Scores combine comparable evidence with editorial judgment. A higher overall number indicates a stronger result under this framework; it does not mean the product is the right fit for every reader.
We review current product pages, plan documentation, support information, and published results from recognised independent security testing organisations.
Evidence is organised under the same five parameters so products with very different bundles can be compared more consistently.
Each parameter receives a score out of 10. Scores reflect the quality, relevance, consistency, and clarity of the available evidence.
Protection contributes 30%; performance and usability 20%; device coverage 20%; security features 15%; and value and clarity 15%.
The overall score and written rationale are checked together to ensure the number is supported by the explanation and buyer context.
Material changes to product plans, published evidence, features, or pricing clarity can trigger a score and ranking review.
Overall rating = Protection × 30% + Performance & usability × 20% + Device coverage × 20% + Security features × 15% + Value & clarity × 15%.
Source policy
Our research includes current vendor documentation and published evidence from independent organisations such as AV-TEST and AV-Comparatives. We consider recent results in context rather than turning a single test event into the entire ranking.
Official product links are provided for checking current plans and compatibility. Relaymint Labs does not host antivirus installers; obtain software from the official vendor or an authorised app store.
Editorial standards
Relaymint Labs has not accepted payment for placement on this page and currently uses no affiliate purchase links here. Featured companies do not approve the scores or ranking order. Product names belong to their respective owners and are used for identification.
Scores are comparative editorial ratings under the methodology above. Product suitability still depends on your devices, operating systems, existing protections, support needs, budget, and risk profile. Confirm current product details before purchasing.
